This past weekend was filled with celebrations- we celebrated my 24th birthday on Saturday, I walked from USD on Sunday for my degree I obtained in January, and on Monday we celebrated Memorial Day and our 1 month anniversary!
We flew down to San Diego late Friday night and thanks to the delayed arrival of the plane we landed around 1am (thanks mom for picking us up!). I of course slept the entire 90 minute flight and woke up for the landing. Saturday morning I woke up at 6:50 had to take my temperature and then got to spend some quality time with the dad and dogs at the park before going to get doughnuts. After reading about the Donut Bar in downtown San Diego I decided that was where we would be getting my birthday breakfast. While Max, mom, and sister slept in, dad and I drove downtown and stood in a semi short line 10 minutes before the opening. At 8am the chef came out introduced himself and told all those in line his credentials and what makes his donut shop so unique. The menu changes daily and gets posted online, the shop closes once they sell out which chef said was around 11am everyday! There were so many choices it was hard to pick just a few but the ones we picked were : the monte cristo, birthday cake, chocolate euphoria, Mexican hot chocolate, vegan green tea matcha, creme brûlée, and maple bacon. Size wise these donuts were massive and the dough itself was one of the best I have had, I also have by had a doughnut for a long time. We all agreed they were not the best doughnuts ever but they were pretty darn good and for $2-$5 per donut depending on which you bought the size was worth the price.
After taking the donuts home and enjoying them with my family we headed to Max's families house picked up the younger siblings and headed to one of our most favorite lunch spots in San Diego - Taco Surf. Max's family has been frequenting Taco Surf for over two decades! We enjoyed carne asada, California burritos and some horchata a few of our most favorite dishes and just spending time with our siblings before heading off to meet my besties and sorority sisters to decorate our graduation caps!
Max was a trooper and really helped execute my vision for the cap and it turned out great! Luckily Drew showed up to the apartment a few minutes after we did so he had someone to talk with while the girls did their thing. Three hours later Harmonie and I had our caps done and some serious appetites. We had been planning dinner with some of Max's college roommates and our best friends to celebrate birthdays. 8:30 reservations can be questionable when you have a little man all of 7months old and we lucked out because or little nephew is the best and most well behaved little man that he woke up just in time to hang with the cool kids and eat dinner. Fish tacos, scallops, steaks, and shrimp with two desserts are just what we had in mind and baby Tyler well he couldn't get enough of the mud pie ice cream... His auntie might have shared some with home just to see his cute little smile! Three hours later we parted ways because graduation was at 9am and well we all had to look our best!
When we got back to our hotel room we were surprised with chocolate covered strawberries and champagne the perfect end to my 24th birthday!
After graduation on Sunday, we decided to take it easy lay out at the hotel pool we were staying at for the weekend. We both ended up taking a nice long nap and enjoying the San Diego sunshine! We ended our trip home with dinner at his parents house, homemade grilled fish tacos, wine, beer and great company. We had dinner outside by the firepit and just talked for a few hours enjoying the warm spring evening before we had to say our goodbyes.
With an early flight at 10 am we were able to be back home and enjoy some relaxation time before having a good friend over for dinner and drinks and then a nice rooftop fire pit at dusk with a view of city hall making me fall in love with our city all over.
